High Sensitivity CRP
This protein is produced in the liver in response to inflammation, which can play a role in the development of narrowing of blood vessels due to build-up of cholesterol. HS-CRP test can identify general cardiac risk and provides insight into an individual’s heart attack and stroke risk.
This test provides the status of vitamin D levels in the body and is important indicator of a healthy bone structure, cellular health and inflammatory processes.
Testosterone is produced in the ovaries and adrenals in women and testes in men. Low testosterone levels have been associated with erectile dysfunction, low libido , decreased energy and bone strength, reduced muscle mass, increased body fat and loss of competitive drive.
Cortisol has a vital physiological role. By raising plasma glucose levels at times of stress, cortisol provides the body with the energy it needs to face any injury, illness or infection. It has potent anti-inflammatory effects easing irritation and pain.
Chronic high cortisol levels have negative effects such as tissue breakdown, reduced protein synthesis and conversion of protein to glucose, which results in decreased musculature and increased abdominal fat. It also suppresses levels of growth hormone and sex hormones, which can reduce libido and fertility. It lessens glucose usage and increases blood levels potentially predisposing to diabetes.
DHEA is produced by the adrenal glands and is a precursor to both testosterone and estrogens. DHEA is also a neurohormone as small quantities are produced in the brain. It has a broad spectrum of benefits including improved energy, mood, memory, increased testosterone levels, enhanced libido and immune function.
