AMH- Anti-Müllerian hormone
AMH is one of the best tests available for ovarian reserve and can be tested anytime during the menstrual cycle. AMH is produced in the ovarian follicles. A higher AMH level indicates the likelihood of a higher number of eggs in the ovaries.
Although the AMH test provides valuable information on ovarian reserve, it is important to remember that no single test is conclusive of a women’s fertility status.
At what point during my menstrual cycle should I take the test?
AMH is not affected by the hormones produced during the menstrual cycle. Thus, the test can be taken at any point during your menstrual cycle, and can even be taken while on birth control pills. Neither will affect your results.
Who is the AMH test for?
This test is for any woman looking to find out her ovarian reserve (how many eggs she has left). It is a strong indicator of fertility status, and helps in the evaluation a woman considering IVF. It is also a good predictor of a women’s reproductive age vs. relying on her chronological age alone. As a simple and affordable home test, this maybe a good starting point for women wanting to learn more about their fertility.
